The How-to of SEO for WordPress Blogs – WordPress Plugins and Practices

One problem that many people have when starting a site is with SEO.

The How-to of SEO for WordPressSEO is Search Engine Optimization or the practice of setting up a website in the most appropriate manner to rank well in search engines.

Many people struggle with the concept of SEO. They overstress the usage of keywords in their posts and pages in a manner that may be damaging to their search engine rankings.

They don’t understand the rest of what SEO encompasses. With regular websites that you code yourself, SEO can be difficult to implement.

However, setting Up SEO for WordPress is an Easy Task. Really, all you need is a single plugin and knowledge of proper SEO practices.

So, without further ado, let’s start the how-to of SEO for WordPress Blogs!

Let’s start you off with the plugins.

The first WordPress plugin you want to pick up is All In One SEO Pack. It’s very easy to set up but it has many settings, so it might get confusing.

Here’s a video to help you set it up properly.

The How-to of SEO for WordPress

In the video, you learned how to adjust the settings for All In One SEO Pack. You set up your site title and description. You changed the way your page titles appear in search. And you know what to avoid changing in the plugin.

As you make posts and pages in WordPress, you will see that below the text box you have the option to set up custom titles and descriptions. You don’t have to change anything in these lower boxes unless you want a short description instead of a partial summary of the page.

Adding your own short description on each page may be beneficial for bringing in new visitors. After all, it’s more pleasant to read an actual paragraph instead of bits of sentences from throughout the page.

You will also notice “Robots Meta” for NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW, etc. Only use these for pages and posts that you don’t want showing up in search engines or directories, such as your privacy policy.

Next is the Sitemap plugin.

Google XML SitemapsWhen you get your WordPress site going, you’re going to want to let search engines know how to navigate your site. That’s where the sitemap plugin comes in.

The sitemap plugin I use is Google XML Sitemaps. With this plugin, you can choose to have the plugin notify search engines when you have made updates. You can also decide which kinds of pages and content you want to have posted on the sitemap.

You may also choose to exclude certain categories or posts. And one of the more important features, you can choose when you want search engine site crawlers to crawl your content as well as choose the priority for what pages to crawl.

If you want further control of what pages appear on Google, you can even sign up for Google Webmaster Tools. There, you have better control of your place in the search engines.

There are two more plugins that we need to take a look at.

Now, you want to make your WordPress site faster…

In order to make your website load faster, you’re going to need a caching plugin. One of the best plugins available is WP Fastest Cache.

WP Fastest Cache will improve your website performance by making a copy of your site on your server that it will load instead of how it loads normally. This copy contains all of the information on your site

WP Fastest CacheThis copy contains all of the content, links, and media and the copy only updates every once in a while according to your caching settings.

When a visitor comes to your site, the server will always load that copy instead of trying to download all of the data of your site’s pages over and over again with new visitors.

This reduces the overall strain on your server as well since it’s serving only one set of data.

There are plenty of setting options for WP Fastest Cache but most of the confusing options have little info buttons to tell you more about them.

Give the plugin a once through and make sure it’s enabled. Don’t worry too much about the settings, the default options work okay and you can always change them later.

Is it easy for people to Share your content?

The next plugin we’re going to take a look at adds social share buttons to your posts and pages. The plugin I use is called Social Share Buttons – Social Pug.

Social Share ButtonsThis plugin will add social share buttons for Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and Pinterest.

You can choose to have vertical buttons, inline buttons, or both. You can choose to have buttons at the top, bottom, or on both sides of your posts and pages.

You can choose to post the share counts for each site and for the total shares as well. You can change the shape of the buttons and make a custom message to encourage shares.

You can even choose to have the buttons show on mobile devices.

Having these social share buttons on your content makes it easy for posts to be seen by a much larger audience than it would have from just search engine rankings.

That pretty much covers the SEO WordPress plugins. Now, let’s look at SEO best practices.

What are the best SEO practices?

There are quite a few SEO practices you want to follow as a website owner. While these aren’t required, they will help you rank better in search engines.

Let’s take a look at what really matters for SEO:

  • Change your default permalink structure to Post Name. Having your post and page names in the URL makes a bigger difference in ranking than having page and post numbers and dates.

  • Block spammy comments. Spam comments will cause search engines to penalize you due to duplicate content. Also, stopping spam comments improves your visitor’s user experience.

  • As you make posts and pages, link to your other relevant posts and pages inside of your site. Creating links to other relevant pages in your content shows search engines that you think your content is worth linking to.

  • Don’t put outbound links on every page. Putting too many outbound links on your site shows search engines that you think other content is more important than what you have to offer. You have to find a balance when it comes to links on your site.

  • Irrelevant LinksDo NOT link to irrelevant or unimportant pages for the sake of making links. Search engines want to see some relevance in your link building. If you link to pages and posts that have relatable keywords, you strengthen your keyword power for the search engines.

  • Make sure you are using a responsive theme. A responsive theme makes your site look good on both desktop and mobile devices. These themes will change shape based on the size of the screen on mobile devices. It’s much more friendly for mobile users.

  • Add posts regularly. Adding posts regularly encourages the search engine crawlers to stop by more often. It shows search engines that your site is still important and still growing in authority, encouraging higher search engine rankings.

  • Have the targeted keywords for your posts or pages in the first paragraph. Don’t keyword stuff the first paragraph but make sure you do include your most important keywords there first. It tells the crawlers what to expect from your page and it has more weight in ranking your page.

  • Make an effort to grow your site’s social media profiles. Increasing the number of followers or friends you have will increase your reach. This will bring in much more traffic and show search engines that people are enjoying your content through other links. It makes them want to get some of that traffic too.

  • Write high quality, informative, and engaging posts of varying lengths. You want to aim for posts 300-1500 words long or possibly longer depending on the subject matter. If you target one article size for your website, it makes it look like you write for length instead of quality. Search engines don’t like that.

  • Use common sense. Think about your content from a visitor’s point of view. Does your content provide value that visitors are looking for or is your content crappy and poorly written? If you don’t like your content your visitors won’t like your content, so improve it the best you can and make it to a quality that is worth reading.

This SEO practices list may be shorter than most but it still holds true. If you implement these SEO practices into your daily routine, you’ll see much better growth in your rankings and traffic.

How Can I Make a Career in Internet Marketing?

If you’re new to internet marketing, there is a LOT to learn.

TeacherIf you’re asking yourself “how can I make a career in internet marketing?” then you need to learn the basics. Internet marketing is an expansive concept to study. There are so many topics covered under the IM classification that it can be completely overwhelming.

That’s okay, though. Don’t panic. Let’s start from the beginning.

Internet Marketing (also known as Online Marketing) is the business of selling products and services or promoting a brand online. There are many internet marketing methods out there including social media marketing, email marketing, search engine optimization, and more.

To keep things simple, we’re going to talk about affiliate marketing concepts.

Affiliate marketing is arguably one of the easiest forms of internet marketing there is.

With affiliate marketing, you don’t need your own products or services. The idea is that you become an affiliate of companies that will pay you commissions for promoting their products or services. To learn more about affiliate marketing itself, click here.

In that link above, a lot of information is covered about internet marketing, so I’m going to try and keep this post from repeating too much information. If you end up having questions or ideas, be sure to leave them in the comment section at the end of this article.

Okay, so we are starting with affiliate marketing. Great. After reading the above post, you should have some ideas for niches, some general products you can promote, and know what content and traffic are all about.

The best way to start is by making a single, highly targeted niche website. Keep in mind that bringing in traffic takes time and/or money. Don’t expect to become a millionaire overnight with your website.

Now, you take this website and you build up content. You want a lot of content and you want it posted regularly. Make sure that the content relates to and complements your niche. No point in making a website with a targeted niche if you’re not making relatable content.

Affiliate ProductAlright. You’ve got a niche. You’ve got content. Next, you want to incorporate affiliate products and services. As you create content, leave links to these affiliate items. Post small banner ads (not too many) on your website’s sidebar. Write reviews about your affiliate products and services. Keep things interesting and relatable, though.

If you haven’t started yet, you really want to get involved with social networking. Every post and page you make, link to it on sites like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Google+. Make new friends as often as possible because they’re going to be your audience on your site. Reshare old posts as time passes by. Keep it up.

Yeah, you’re doing great. You have a website being steadily built. It grows daily. It’s been up for a few months and is getting some decent traffic from the search engines. By now, you’re probably making some sales. It’s not quite a steady income yet but it’s getting there. Keep going. Keep pumping out content and sharing it.

A few more months pass by and now you’re getting a lot of highly targeted traffic from the search engines. You’re making a lot more sales and it’s become a steady, but low income. Now is the time to start scaling it up. Make another website and repeat the same process. Keep putting up at least weekly content on your money making site, though.

Several more months go by and your new site is bringing in some money. That’s great. You’re doing fantastic. Your first site has really started bringing in the cash. You now have enough to begin the next phase: outsourcing.

It’s time to start hiring people to write your content and manage your sites. You can outsource using the sites Upwork or Freelancer to countries like the Philippines where the cost of living is much lower but they still have a great understanding of the English language. You get good prices for decent work.

Now, you just give directions to your workers and check on website progress. Keep an eye on your affiliate stats. Start looking for new niches and new products. Keep scaling up and hiring new people.

That is what a successful affiliate marketing business looks like.

Wealthy AffiliateIt takes time, but it can be an incredibly rewarding experience. You just have to put in the work to get the great results.

If that description of what an affiliate marketing business looks like seems motivating to you, I recommend you learn more through the Wealthy Affiliate University community.

Is FeaturePoints a Scam? 2017 Feature Points Review

2017 Feature Points Review

Overall Ranking: 7 out of 10
Price: $0 Membership (Join Here)
Owners: TapGen
Website: http://www.FeaturePoints.com

INTRODUCTION

FeaturePoints ReviewEver wanted to make money by using your smartphone? Well, FeaturePoints may be up your alley. FeaturePoints is an app that pays you to download and test out other free apps.

The question remains, is FeaturePoints a scam? Does Feature Points work? Let’s take a look at the facts.

PROS/CONS

Pros

  • Android and iOS Compatible
  • Get Paid to Test Apps
  • Decent Referral Program
  • Redeem Points for Rewards
  • Redeem Points for Paid Apps

Cons

  • Mobile Device Can Get Bogged Down From Memory Usage
  • Claiming Rewards Requires a Lot of Points
  • Apps sometimes disappear from FP system during testing (high point apps)
  • May have fewer apps to test in some areas

FeaturePoints will run on any device running iOS 7 or later or Android 4.0 or later. They pay you in points and each app is worth a different amount of points based on how much the app developer wanted to promote their product. The points you get can be redeemed for PayPal cash or Gift Cards but some rewards are country specific.

They pay you in points and each app is worth a different amount of points based on how much the app developer wanted to promote their product. The points you get can be redeemed for PayPal cash, Gift Cards, or game points but some rewards are country specific.

Points can also be redeemed for paid apps but they require an active iTunes account, so Android users are out of luck (just redeem for PayPal if able and pay for apps yourself).

Refer a FriendFeaturePoints also implements a pretty decent referral program. When you refer a friend, your friend gets 50 free points and you get 50% of any points they earn through the app. This can add up quickly if you can get a lot of people to try out FeaturePoints’s promoted apps.

One negative impact that FeaturePoints has on your device is that it can get bogged down from memory usage. You have to be careful about downloading too many apps and having them run at the same time. Delete apps you don’t use often and close any apps you’re not using currently.

The rewards offered by FeaturePoints require quite a few points in order for redemption. For instance, $3 to PayPal requires 1,800 points. Basically, for any reward with a monetary value, you need to redeem 600 points for every dollar.

In some countries, you may find that FeaturePoints doesn’t have that many apps. That is due to the lack of apps in the region that are being promoted by developers. FeaturePoints will only provide the apps they are paid to.

WHO IT IS FOR

FeaturePoints is for anyone looking to make a few bucks every week with minimal work. If that’s not enough, then there is always the referral program.

Those capable of referring many app testers will have the potential to earn hundreds or even thousands a month but it will be a constant effort to keep those referrals going or bring new referrals in.

FeaturePoints allows anyone 13 years or older to join and test apps, so young teenagers may find this app can provide a steady “allowance”. It definitely beats mowing lawns.

TRAINING/TOOLS OVERVIEW

The FeaturePoints website has a short video explaining how the app works. It’s quick and to the point. You don’t really need in-depth training for this app but if you’re looking for it, you won’t find it through the app or its website.

One cool thing about FeaturePoints is that they have premade videos that you can promote that will automatically have your referral code displayed in them. There’s a generic FP video, one based on Pokemon Go, one for Fifa, and more.

There are even social share buttons right inside of the app that contain premade messages with your referral link attached. You can change the messages, of course, but you don’t have to worry about trying to figure out your referral code ahead of time.

SUPPORT

SupportThe FeaturePoints app has several support features inside.

First, there are the email settings. You want to put your preferred email here so that you are eligible to redeem points for cash and rewards.

Then, there is the support button. This leads you to your email provider so that you can email your concerns to the support system.

If you don’t want to email support and just have a general question, then the FAQ is probably for you. The FAQ answers a lot of questions and is pretty thorough.

After that, there’s your points history. This section tells you about all of the transactions you’ve made regarding your points. It keeps track of the apps you tried, the offers you’ve completed, the surveys you’ve taken, and even points you earn from friends.

Finally, there are the terms and privacy statements. These are legally required documents for any app that deals with money or memberships. Feel free to read them if you like but there’s nothing truly interesting in there.

PRICE

FeaturePoints is free to use. The apps you test are free as well, but some have premium options or have in-app purchases.

As long as you’re careful about those in-app purchases, you shouldn’t be paying a dime.

FINAL OPINION/VERDICT

FeaturePoints as a make money app is legitimate. They pay out when you earn enough points and request a reward.

The only problem I see with FeaturePoints is that the points earned are pretty low for the reward costs but I understand the points are set by the app developers and what they are willing to pay for testers.

You might even find some apps you like through FeaturePoints. I’ve found a few games that I really enjoy and I play them regularly in my downtime.

This is why I gave FeaturePoints a 7 out of 10. It’s an app with low payout…but it works and that’s the important part. Is FeaturePoints a scam? No, it is not.

WHAT I RECOMMEND

Wealthy AffiliateWhile FeaturePoints is fine and dandy, its payout is so small without referrals. In order to really crank out the referrals, you need to know what you’re doing.

One thing that can help is an understanding of affiliate marketing, as it’s essentially the same concept. To really get a grip on what affiliate marketing is all about, I recommend joining a community that specializes in affiliate marketing.

The community that I joined was Wealthy Affiliate University. Through WA, you learn all sorts of ways to build content and promote products you enjoy. They show you how to drive paying traffic (or in your case, working traffic) in many fashions.

Feature Points PC and Mac – Feature Points Referral Code (Free Points)

Do you want Feature Points on PC or Mac?

Feature PointsIf so, I’ve got your fix. I’m going to tell you about one Android emulator that I’ve been using for the past few weeks. If you want to run an iOS emulator, I don’t have experience with any. Sorry, folks.

The Android emulator I’ve been using is called Bluestacks (no referral link here). Bluestacks runs on PC, Mac, Android, HTML5, and Flash. What’s great about Bluestacks is that it runs non-game apps as well as gaming apps, which is perfect for FeaturePoints.

With FeaturePoints, you will be trying out all kinds of apps so you need something robust. Bluestacks has you covered here. You can also multi-task and stream directly to Twitch!

One downside of Bluestacks, however, is that it will prompt you at some point to purchase their App Player Premium membership or download an app they’re promoting in order to continue using the full function of the emulator. The good news is that App Player Premium is only $2/month or $24/year per PC.

Once you get Bluestacks installed, all you do is treat the emulator like you would an Android device. You change the “Android device settings” to add your Google account and work from there.

It’s simple to install and use Feature Points on PC or Mac through Bluestacks. Once your Google account is added, you go to the Google Play Store and find FeaturePoints. Just install it from there and then open it up and sign in with your login information.

Feature Points Referral Code (Free Points)

In order to unlock your free points on FeaturePoints, use the code PBDECA upon signing up, or click here and the code will be added automatically.

With this code, you will get a 50 free points to start you off. That’s the equivalent of having tested out a few low paying apps so it saves you around 10 minutes of your time.

It might not be much, but it gets you up and running.

That’s all, folks!

I’ve told you about how to use Bluestacks to get Feature Points on PC or Mac and how to get your free points on FeaturePoints using the referral code PBDECA.

That pretty much covers everything I have for you in this post.

Did you get Bluestacks installed? How’s it working out for you so far? Have any FeaturePoints tips for other users? Let me know in the comment section below.

Can I Pay Off My Student Loans While Attending College?

One question I’ve been asked lately by some friends is “Can I pay off my student loans while attending college?”

College StudentThe answer is yes. It is possible to start paying off your student loans while you’re still attending classes. In fact, it is actually recommended that you do make payments on your student loans as often as you can afford.

This minimizes the overall impact the student loans will have after college. If you can at least pay off the interest on your student loans, you prevent the loans from growing more than they would otherwise.

Paying off your student loans while attending college can really reduce the number of years you will be making payments on your loans, leaving you more time to build your savings or investments.

You’ll be able to afford to take care of your family easier and maybe even be able to handle a mortgage that you may not have qualified for previously.

If you have an established income when you start college, you have the upper hand over other students. Working full or part-time or working as your own boss may be a bit of an overload while attending college classes but the payments you’ll be able to make are worth it.

Don’t have an established income? That’s okay!

If you don’t currently have an income and you’re attending college classes, there are a few things you can do. You can try and get a part-time or full-time job that hopefully pays more than minimum wage…or you can try and work for yourself.

Working on the internet is quickly becoming the norm. Over the years, many different methods of making money online have been developed. Those that currently work in the industry call it “internet marketing”. Don’t be afraid of the term. If it makes you feel better, think of it this way…working online makes you an “online entrepreneur”.

One of the easiest methods of internet marketing is called “affiliate marketing“. This is where you find companies with affiliate programs in which you promote their products and get a commission on the sales made through your affiliate link.

It’s really quite easy. You just pick a niche, make some content, promote a product, and let the traffic flow to your work. If you really want to learn about affiliate marketing, I recommend joining an online community.

Withdraw CashThe community that I’m a part of is called Wealthy Affiliate University. It’s a great affiliate marketing community with helpful and motivating people from all around the globe. In the Wealthy Affiliate University, they teach you everything you need to know to make money online.

If you’ve never made a website before, they can show you how to create one in under 30 seconds. No lie! The process has been streamlined and these days you don’t need to be a coding expert to have a successful website.

If you want to see my personal review of Wealthy Affiliate University, click here.

There are other options you can take with internet marketing, but this is by far the easiest route. I really think it’s worth your time and effort.

That’s all for now.

Are you making payments on your student loans while attending classes? Do you know someone else who could use this information? Feel free to comment and share. And don’t forget, if you have any questions, I’m here to help.

Thanks for reading! See you next time.
